FAQs

Can you recommend where i search for good hotels or location rentals?

What’s a good time to start shooting?

We almost always start whenever you check into hotel / airbnb, which can be anywhere between 2-4pm. Starting around this time is fine for getting natural light during the spring and summer seasons. If you’re concerned with getting enough sunlight for the whole duration of the shoot, I recommend shooting early morning prior to your check-out, or booking the hotel for two evenings and shooting on the second day for full flexibility of start times. Otherwise, if you’re open to me using flash/artificial light, shooting times won’t be as much a factor.

I’ve looked everywhere and can’t seem to find the perfect location, any advice?

Location isn’t quite everything. Remember that you’re the most important asset. As long as we focus on capturing you in the best light, everything should turn out just fine. We can place more emphasis on great lingerie sets/wardrobe, as well as some thoughtful creaive props.

Can you recommend a make-up or hair stylist?

If shooting in NYC, LA, or Miami, I can potentially arrange for make up and hair with enough notice. I also recommend flexible and affordable options such as GlamSquad and BeGlammed where I’ve gotten good to great results if you manage them well.

Do you pose your models?

Yes, when i have to. I’ll initially start by placing you in a picturesque area and start taking snaps to see how the light is behaving with minimal direction. From there we converse, build rapport, and ease into more or less direction depending on what’s working or not. I may ask you to pause or hold a position and build upon it. Many times I’ll reference an image from a pinterest board, imitate it, and progress it into our own version. I’ll regularly review sets on the camera so you can see results, and point out ways we can improve. At the heart of most everything is the posture, along with relaxed limbs.

How do you deal with delivery of images, selection, and retouching?

Within 48hrs of the shoot, i email a dropbox link for the image proofs for you to select from.

Standard Adjustments:

  • Correct environment: remove plugs, cords, outlets, any distractions, etc

  • Shape of body, tighten/accentuate hips, arms, neck, posture, jawline, rolls, etc.

  • Remove skin blemishes, flyaway hairs, reshaping, & fix hair.

  • Smooth skin while retaining texture (includes hands, feet, elbows, & knees)

  • Enhance dimension in legs, arms, abs, bust, for that extra oomph

  • Color-grading: brightness, contrast & saturation, warming or cooling of overall image

  • Change wardrobe colors or parts of environment to enhance overall look

  • Enhance and balance skin tone

  • Blur, or creative cover upon request

  • A subtle layer of a grain to for an organic (less digital) look

Another round of revisions is included if you want additional adjustments. Specify thru dropbox comments or email. rinse > repeat if necessary. . . If you can see the problem, i can fix it.

Once you’re satisfied with the final product, I forward a usage request for the same images for my web portfolio (goodfaceprovocateur.com), social media (twitter: @gotgoodface, instagram: @getgoodface) via email.

I might want to make extra selects to be retouched but at a later time. How long do i have to decide on that?

I hold on to RAW/Digital Negatives for at least 6 months and dispose of them shortly after unless any special requests are made.

Can I keep all the images from the proofs?

I send all useable images via dropbox with a large “g” watermark with 5% opacity over the each image to discourage using proof images. Using proof images with watermark is universally frowned upon, unless you’ve purchased them. You can purchase the proofs without the watermark, or the RAW/Digital Negatives. Difference between the two is the proofs are smaller compressed files to allow for a manageable web delivery. The RAW/Digital Negatives are the original files with all color information on them, needed for professional editing/retouching.

There’s so many images and I’m overwhelmed with making the selects. Can you help me with them?

Yes. I simply add a folder to your proofs folder with my personal favorites, and you can use images as your selects, or as a guide to make your selects. Some clients even go as far as having me make the selects, which I’m happy to do : )

I like the idea of mood boards, how can i use that?

Motion FAQs

What’s the motion session all about?

Videos, like your photographs, website, and social media are an extension of your branding. It’s produced with a combination of logic and emotion to connect with your audience.

For the 30 second video, we capture elements from the photoshoot and use only the best parts. Footage is expertly woven together across the video timeline, mixed with sounds or music which appeals to your prospective clients in way where it excites or creates a nostalgia, thus comforting them. The cuts get right to the point showcasing the best parts joust enough, but leave one wanting more.

The 10 additional clips can consist of favorite shots from the 30 second, or out takes from the shoot, and are applicable for even shorter attention spans.

Can you explain the workflow of the session?

The session is designed to compliment the photoshoot, while potentially featuring a few shots not covered for the stills. We plan the photoshoot with the usual mood boards along with discussing and selecting locations. It’s helpful to have music track options prior to the shoot. The more we know, the more imaginative I’ll be on how to shoot and cut the video.

On set, we capture video before wardrobe changes. Common video themes parallel common themes for photos: lounging resting & relaxing in lingerie or cute attire, prepping for dates, cooking/consuming foods & libations, traveling to dates, making an entrance, making an exit, etc.

48hrs post shoot you’ll receive photo proofs via dropbox. Approx 10 days from there, you’ll receive a “proof reel” in the same dropbox, which functions very similarly to photo proofs. The video proof reel includes the 1st roughcut of your video with the outtakes or extra clips sequenced after the roughcut. Every clip is numbered, for example: A roughcut which consists of 15 clips with be numbered 1 thru 15, and the 30 outtakes/extra clips that follow will be numbered 16 thru 45. We use the numbers as references which shots to cut or swap around when working towards a final cut. You can also request to cut shots to a certain length, or extend. Same thing when selecting the 10 short clips. Once we’re locked into edits, I color grade the video and add any necessary blurs to cover identity. I’ll include wide and tall versions of all video when applicable.

Any tips for a smooth and productive shoot?

If you have ideas, and you brought outfits or props for those ideas. . try it out, go for it. It sucks to back, wondering how they would have turned out. Give yourself some room to fail. I can still pull things together in editing and create some gold.

Try not to take 2,3, 4 + weeks to give feedback on edits. It kills momentum and creative energy on my end.

Also, if you’re squeamish about video, and the limitations vs. photo editing, the lens i primarily use for video is quite flattering. Plus, unlike stills, video is constantly capturing, and I’ll be directing and position you towards the most flattering looks. So we get every bit of goodness from everything we shoot to work with.
